February 13, 2012 – The Future Fisherman Foundation (F3) along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recently completed a “Train the Trainers” seminar for local schools and community volunteers in the Ft Meyers Florida area interested in aquatic education and fishing skills.

“These seminars are designed to get adults in communities involved as trainers so they can go back to their local schools and community groups and build sustainable aquatic education and fishing programs,” stated F3 Executive Director Mark Gintert.  ”We like the challenge of getting more qualified adult trainers involved in programs that go well beyond one day fishing derbies so that students eventually become long term practicing anglers,” added Gintert. November 29, 2011 – The next stop in F3’s commitment to train the trainers of aquatic education programs is Harrowgate Elementary School in Chester, Va., 15501 Harrowgate Rd. Chester, Va. 23831.  The seminar begins at 9am, February 18-19.  It’s open to any organization.  Interested applicants can go to the F3 web site, www.futurefisherman.org, to register.

There’s a $20 registration fee, which is refunded to those who complete the two day program as a training/travel stipend.  Also, applicants who complete a post event survey will receive a tackle package for their students. Read More »

The Future Fisherman Foundation completed its first on-line fundraising auction to support youth aquatic education and training programs across the United States with great success!

Sixty-eight items including music memorabilia, artwork and guided fishing trips went up for bid on Thursday, November 17.  When the auction wrapped up on the following Tuesday, almost all of the items were claimed by generous bidders from across the country.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the results of this program,” F3 Executive Director, Mark Gintert, stated.  “I don’t have an exact total yet, but it appears we have raised several thousands to help support our educator training programs and programs like Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs. Read More »

Bass Pro Shops, Crappie Masters Tournament Trail held its second annual National Youth Scholarship at the Alabama River. Dallas Godshall of Prattville, Alabama represented the Future Fisherman Foundation in the 13-15 age groups.  Godshall was just one of the youth anglers fishing for prizes including a $4,000 scholarship. Crappie Masters offers free youth fishing events for local children at each of their tournaments, culminating with the National Youth Championship.

The Future Fisherman Foundation chose to select a student from one of their angling education programs to enter the tournament.  Doug Darr, the Aquatic Education Coordinator for the AL Dept. of Wildlife and Freshwater lead Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs and WFF Partnership program in the Montgomery area.  Graduate, Godshall passed the course with excellence and Dallas won the groups fishing contest. Camp Ocala, a scenic 4-H camp nestled in the Ocala National Forest, provided the setting for the third stage of F3’s “Train the Trainers” seminar in Florida.

Representatives from several Florida Schools, Boy Scouts and Park & Recreation Centers along with groups from North Carolina and New Jersey participated in this event which was made possible by a training grant through the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation.

Steve Marshall and Jennifer Saranzak from the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) provided the class with two days of hands on Aquatic Education and HOFNOD training that included a variety of hands on activities designed to get students involved and excited about the sport of fishing and the great outdoors. The Future Fisherman Foundation and Project Fish recently completed a “Train the Trainers” seminar in conjunction with a Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation grant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Forty-two future trainers from 5 different states converged on the Michigan State University campus extension in Kalamazoo for what proved to be a very interactive and hands-on demonstration lead by the Project Fish Coordinator, Mark Stephens and his staff.

The group went through a variety of interactive exercises, all designed for the ultimate goal of getting kids involved with fishing. Activities centered on topics like ecology, stewardship, fish handling and care along with fishing skills and lure building during the two-day event. Read More »

Sept. 12, 2011 – The Future Fisherman Foundation and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have announced a regional training seminar for all parties interested in aquatic education training. Camp Ocala, located at 18533 NFS 535 Altoona, Fl. 32702 will be the site of this year’s event.

This seminar is open to not only teachers from around the state, but also 4H leaders, Boy/Girls Scout leaders, FFA personnel and a host of others who are interested in getting students involved with aquatic education.
