National Fishing and Boating Education Grants Initiative

Grant Resources

To help you through the grant writing process please make use of the resources provided below. If you have additional questions please contact the Foundation staff at 703-519-9691.

Aligning with Standards

The National Fishing and Boating Education Grants Initiative requires the applicant to address how their proposed fishing or boating education program will align with National Standards for Physical Education and with fishing and boating standards.

National Physical Education Standards
The national physical education standards refer to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) National Standards for Physical Education. These seven standards are documented in the NASPE publication Moving Into the Future: National Standards for Physical Education: A Guide to Content and Assessment.

As an alternate, refer to your local and state education standards.

Boating Standards
Educational standards for boating can be found in the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) document, National Boating Education Standards. This document can be adapted to most types of boats. It does not include actual operating skills.

The American Canoe Association (ACA) is a source for paddleboat (canoe and kayak) education.

Each state has boating standards and requirements that need to be considered when implementing an educational program. For your state contact for boating safety visit http://www.nasbla.org/blas.php.

Fishing Standards
The Future Fisherman Foundation developed fishing standards, or Learning Goals/Exit Outcomes to serve as an educational guide.
