Grant Information
Physical Education Grants
Through our Physh Ed grants initiative and in partnership with The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, grants are available in the amount of $2,500 to certified physical education teachers in public, private or charter schools. Our grants, training, and other services can help you get ready to launch a new fishing and boating program in your school.
The key elements of the adaptable fishing and boating education programs we advance are proven effective through research and evaluation and meet the professional standards developed by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Whether or not you choose to apply for a grant, you can find out about dozens of available programs and resources by going to our Resource Yellow Pages.
Training Workshop
In addition to the grants and program information our partnership provides for training, equipment, and ongoing guidance. Those who receive a grant will be expected to attend a 5-day training workshop. Travel to and from the workshop will be included in the grant award; room and board will be provided by the Future Fisherman Foundation. The workshop will bring together all grant awardees and cover topics such as:
- Angling and boating skills, safety, and ethics
- Basic equipment set-up and maintenance
- How to instill understanding of fish and their habitat needs
- How to take part in community conservation efforts
- Developing partnerships for access to fishing and boating sites
- Making community connections to recruit long-term mentors for children
For the 2008/2009 grant cycle, applications must be submitted electronically to peapp@asafishing.org on or before Monday January 21, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. All applicants will be notified by March 31, 2008 regarding the status of their grant. The training workshop will be held in July 2008.
Because of a unique relationship with Sportfishing companies, the Future Fisherman Foundation can make your grant dollars go further by giving schools the benefit of huge savings on fishing equipment, tackle, and boating supplies by visiting our E-Store.
